So what I have learned so far is that the Norwegians are exactly the same as us. This recruit team is a very fast bunch of skiers (many will race world cups and come in top 30, 1 of them wants to win the 50k in Lauhti) but you would have no problem training with them.
They are in no way better than you, what we need to do now is get you to believe that and ski with the confidence to knock their socks off. The US women are doing it and it just takes 1 person to break through so that everyone else will believe that we have the secret. They say that it is a numbers game but if that is true then why do all the best skiers not come from Oslo where there are 30 clubs with 200 to 300 kids. Instead most of the best skiers come from the small villages around the country. One person said to me that the trainers in Norway are not really that good, they are simply able to hide their mistakes because they have so many athletes. And Jack made a good comment, if they are so good at endurance then how come you don't see any on the podium in the 10K or marathon events.
I still believe that we need to do things better because we have fewer athletes, which is why the personalized approach to training is going to work for us.
With that said, I would like all of you to dial it back this week, we will change the structure of he month slightly so that we have the big week next week. When I put together the program for one of you then looked at it, I saw that it fit all of you this week. It has smaller workouts but still maintains the strength and intensity and ends with a monster distance day. If you are still tired at the end of the week then you can cut this down.
